Protect your recovery

Trauma & disability insurance

Trauma and disability cover pays you — not a hospital or a bank — when serious illness or injury turns life upside down. The definitions in the policy decide whether a claim is paid, so we help you choose cover that actually responds when it matters.

What it covers

  • Trauma (critical illness) cover for cancer, heart attack and stroke
  • Total and permanent disability (TPD) cover
  • A check of the definitions in policies you already hold

Who it's for

Households that would face financial pressure after a major diagnosis, people with health risks in their family history, and anyone whose ability to earn is their biggest asset.

Common mistakes we see

  • Assuming all trauma policies are the same — the definition of 'severe' varies widely between insurers.
  • Covering the mortgage but forgetting the ongoing cost of living while you cannot work.
  • Buying TPD through work or super without checking when it actually pays.

Questions to ask before you buy

  • Does this policy's definition of 'stroke' or 'cancer' match how doctors actually diagnose it?
  • If I became permanently disabled, would this cover replace enough income to keep our household running?
  • Am I covered for a partial disability, or only total and permanent?

How we help

We compare definitions across insurers — the part that decides whether a claim is paid — and support you through the claim itself, dealing with the insurer so you can focus on recovery.

“The trauma policy Eduard recommended paid out quickly after my diagnosis. Having an adviser who handled the insurer made a hard year easier.”

Common questions

What is the difference between trauma cover and income protection?

Trauma pays a one-off lump sum on diagnosis of a listed condition. Income protection replaces part of your monthly income while you cannot work. Many households hold both.

What does TPD actually mean?

Total and permanent disability means you are unlikely to ever work again — in your own occupation or any occupation, depending on the policy. The definition matters enormously at claim time.

Is trauma cover expensive?

It depends on your age, health, sum insured and family history. We price several insurers side by side so you see the real cost of meaningful cover.

Do mental health conditions qualify?

Some trauma policies now include severe mental illness conditions, and income protection can respond to mental health claims. Definitions vary, so we check them with you.

Can I claim on both trauma and income protection?

Often yes — they are designed to work together. A trauma lump sum clears debt while income protection keeps the monthly bills paid.
