Protect everyday assets
Fire & general insurance
Your home, contents, cars and business are the assets you rely on every day. We compare fire and general cover across insurers so you are not overpaying — or quietly underinsured.
What it covers
- Home and contents insurance, including correct sums insured
- Motor vehicle cover for private and business use
- Commercial and business pack cover
Who it's for
Homeowners, landlords, and small business owners who want their personal and business assets reviewed together.
Common mistakes we see
- Insuring your home for its market value instead of its rebuild cost — the two can be far apart.
- Assuming contents are covered by your landlord's or body corporate policy.
- Not updating the policy after renovations, a new car, or starting a home business.
Questions to ask before you buy
- Is my home insured for what it would actually cost to rebuild today?
- What excess would I pay on each type of claim?
- Does my policy cover my home office equipment or tools of trade?
How we help
We review sums insured and excesses, compare options across insurers, and help you through the claim when something goes wrong — the part that matters most.
“After a leak damaged our ceiling, MFSS managed the whole claim. We didn't have to fight the insurer ourselves.”
Common questions
How is my home's sum insured calculated?
New Zealand policies are based on rebuild cost, not market value. We use current rebuild estimates to set a realistic figure and review it over time.
What's the difference between market value and replacement cover for my car?
Market value pays what the car is worth at the time of the loss. Replacement cover buys you a new equivalent car if yours is written off early in its life.
Are my contents covered away from home?
Many policies include or offer optional cover for belongings taken out — laptops, bikes, jewellery. We check the fine print with you.
I run a business from home — is that covered?
Often not by a standard home policy. Business equipment, stock and liability usually need their own cover, which we can arrange.
What should I do straight after a flood or burglary?
Make the area safe, photograph the damage, and call us before you dispose of anything. We lodge and manage the claim with you.
